Terms and Conditions

If you want to use our material for any workshops or teaching, you must observe the following terms and conditions.

Handling the participants’ data and privacy is to be taken seriously in all stages of preparing, running and post processing the workshops, which includes but is not limited to the following.

  • Participants’s personal data is only to be recorded, stored and processed as needed for the workshop including its preparation and post processing. Further, their personal data shall also not be published or shared with persons not involved in organising, running or post-processing the particular workshop for which the participant, whose data are countered, has registered.
  • Unless written consent is given, personal data of participants should be deleted at the latest 30 days after the workshop.
  • No photos, screenshots, screencasts or video recordings of any kind showing the participants’ names, photos, video images or any other personal data should be taken.
  • Participants are to be informed when registering for a workshop that photos, screenshots or video recordings are to be taken during the workshop.
  • Strictly, no other persons other than registered participants and persons actively involved in running the workshop shall have access to the workshop, including participation in the virtual meeting in case of an online based workshop.
  • All persons involved in organising, running or post-processing workshops, specially those in direct contact with the participants or their personal data shall be informed at the beginning of their engagement in GiC about the terms and conditions listed here.

The workshop has been specifically developed for girls due to a remaining strong gender bias in STEM and specially many engineering disciplines, see also more information here. Hence, we also note the following:

  • Ideally and if possible, workshops should be run exclusively for girls / young women in order to specifically encourage their participation and foster a “safe space”.
  • In case a mixed workshop is required, for instance by running a workshop for mixed school classes, female participation should actively be sought after and encouraged. In case less than 50% female participants are present during a workshop, post processing must include a critical analysis of the reasons for the gap and measures shall be discussed to increase the percentage of female participants in the future.
  • Also, in case of mixed workshops, care should be taken and measures shall be in place to ensure that participants of both genders play an active role and each participant, regardless of their gender, is encouraged to and given the opportunity to share their views and results equally.
  • A gender-sensitive language should be used, specially in languages where words describing persons are gendered (i.e., German) such that the male stereotype in STEM, specially engineering is not further encouraged.
  • At least one female should be included in running the workshop and play an active role during the workshop. Also, when having experts from the field of control present during the workshop to give a talk or similar, female speakers shall actively sought for. If at all possible, female presenters shall be in the majority compared to make presenters in any workshop.

Further, in order to give credit to the numerous hours spent on preparing the material by volunteers all over the globe, please also observe the following.

  • When using workshop material prepared for GiC in the past, credits must be given to the original creators of the material. For instance, at the end of each video, the last seconds showing the credits shall not be removed and shall be shown.
  • The workshop material is not to be altered without consent of the original creators.

In summary, workshops using the material developed as part of Girls in Control workshops must observe the conditions listed above. The initiative, its core team and other volunteers contributing to it, IFAC or IFAC Foundation are not liable or responsible for damages of any kind caused by misconduct of individuals organising or holding GiC-workshops, such as holding or organising workshops with the available material without following the above mentioned terms and conditions.
